Shell’s Pennsylvania petrochemical plant is unlikely to meet financial targets
Shell’s petrochemical plant in western Pennsylvania faces challenges to meet its financial goals, in another example of the risky finances behind petrochemical plants. Why we chose to highlight this story: Shell's persistent violations raise questions about whether or not the cracker plant is a good neighbor. But has the plant benefitted the county economically?

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is a nonpartisan global team that examines issues related to energy markets, trends, and policies. They recently wrote an analysis, which you can read here.

Why we chose to highlight this story: All 67 Pennsylvania counties will recount their ballots because the state senate race is so close.

As of late last week, Dave McCormick led by about 24,000 votes over Democratic incumbent Bob Casey — that's 48.9% to Casey’s 48.5%. Read more about the recounting process from the Trib here.

Why we chose to highlight this video: Check out the second video in the Cornerstone of Beaver County's (TCBC) recently released video series called "Bringing Hope Home," which aims to raise awareness around the issue of homelessness, the complex situations that lead to and stem from homelessness, and the challenges of navigating interventions and solutions. It also aims to shed light on the hope that comes from fostering a deeper understanding of homelessness and moving toward long-term solutions, including affordable housing.
